Austria’s flag is a red-white-red horizontal triband with three bands of equal height. This record displays the common 2:3 form, while Austrian law defines the band construction without prescribing a ratio for the plain national flag.

Article 8a of the Federal Constitutional Law and section 3 of the Arms Act describe the Republic’s colors as red-white-red and the flag as three equal horizontal bands, white between red. The separate federal service flag adds the federal arms and has a legally specified 2:3 ratio.

Divide the hoist into three equal units and fill the upper and lower thirds red. Leave the center third white. A 2:3 rectangle is the common display form used by the reference asset, but it should not be presented as a statutory ratio for the undecorated flag.
Historical record
Red-white-red was established for the republican flag in 1919. The Republic restored the colors and flag by law on 1 May 1945, and the current constitutional description entered Article 8a in 1981. The 1984 Arms Act repeats that construction and distinguishes the plain flag from the armorial federal service flag.
