Mongolia’s current national flag has three equal vertical bands, red–blue–red, with a golden Soyombo on the hoist-side red band. Its height is half its length.
Specification
Constitution, Article 12(5) defines the colors, one-third blue center, golden hoist device, and 1:2 ratio. Blue represents the eternal sky; red signifies progress and prosperity. The flag is a symbol of Mongolia’s independence and sovereignty under Article 12(1).

Article 12 of the Law on State Symbols requires plain red and blue fabric and adherence to the constitutional model at every size. Article 11 places the Soyombo in the central part of the hoist band.
The inspected SVG has a 1200 × 600 viewBox. A red background and blue strip from x=400 to x=800 create equal 400-unit bands. The device is horizontally centered near x=200. Its visible extent is approximately x=90–310 and y=60–510: the upper and lower clearances are unequal. “Central part” should therefore not be converted into an invented requirement for equal vertical margins.
The Soyombo combines flame, sun, crescent, triangles, horizontal bars, paired curved central forms, and two upright side bars. The side bars measure 50 × 240 SVG units; the sun radius is 40 units. These are measurements of this rendering, consistent with the broad embassy construction reported by FOTW. Rounded curves and tiny coordinate offsets should not be promoted into legal tolerances or exact symmetry requirements.

Historical record
The current flag belongs to the 1992 constitutional settlement. Parliament dates adoption of the Constitution to 13 January; Article 70(2) sets its commencement at noon on 12 February. This record uses those explicit legal milestones rather than assigning a separate, unverified first-hoisting day. MN-NAT-1992 is an editorial catalogue identifier, not a government-issued code.
The Law on State Symbols followed on 20 May 1994 and took effect on 1 July 1994. Later, MNS 6262:2011 addressed flag dimensions, colors, Soyombo construction, and textile requirements. The government’s standard notice gives 22 February 2012 as its effective date. FOTW reports publication of an English translation on 8 July 2011; that publication date should not be substituted for commencement.
Use and display
The State Symbols law provides for permanent display at designated government and diplomatic premises, display on specified occasions, and use on Mongolian-registered vessels. Article 25 also permits respectful use by citizens, households, businesses, and organizations. Consult Articles 13–15 and 25 for the applicable context.
