Norway’s flag is a 16:22 red rectangle with a dark-blue Nordic cross bordered in white. Its construction uses the sequence 6:1:2:1:6 vertically and 6:1:2:1:12 horizontally.

The flag regulation describes a deep-red field divided into four rectangles by a dark-blue cross separated from the red by a white border. The two red fields at the hoist are six-unit squares; the two fly fields are twelve units long.

Draw the white cross first at four units wide, then center a two-unit blue cross over it. This leaves a one-unit white border along each side. The cross center lies eight units from the hoist and eight units from the upper edge.
Historical record
Fredrik Meltzer designed the flag, and the Storting adopted it on 17 May 1821. The current legal framework rests on the Flag Act of 1898 and its associated regulation, which defines the proportions used in this record.
