Specification

Article 2 of Law 34/2008 describes green below yellow, blue above, and a golden sun separated from its rays by a blue ring. [2] The ordinary large format in the 2013 order gives hoist : fly 130:195, or 2:3, and band heights 65:32.5:32.5 cm. [3]

Physical color references

Article 6 lists blue as “Pantene 299 C 2x” (the printed spelling; understood as Pantone in FOTW), green RAL 6029, yellow RAL 1023, and golden yellow RAL 1003. [2] [4] These references take precedence here over differing Olympic and Album palettes reported by FOTW. No certified conversion to screen values is asserted.

Construction notes

The 2013 order, Articles 4, 5 and 7, provides these dimensions. All entries below are centimetres; the small-format millimetres have been converted. Ray diameter means the complete tip-to-tip envelope. [3]

The sizes are not exact scaled copies. For manufacture, use the measurements for the intended format. The order permits polyester or cotton and distinguishes fringed indoor flags from the ordinary unfringed version. [3]

Local vector

The 195 × 130 viewBox represents the ordinary large format. The sun center is (160, 34), derived from the specified edge clearances and 21-unit outer radius. The disc radius is 6.5. The source’s reflected ray paths yield 24 tips, one vertically upward; their rounded coordinates are scaled to the prescribed envelope. The blue ring is approximately 0.615 units thick, retained proportionally from the artwork, not a legal measurement. Field size, sun placement and disc size were adapted; screen fills were retained. Annex discrepancy

The 2008 annex prints D = 0.125 Y and B = D/3. FOTW identifies a conflict between that formula and the measured sun. This specimen follows the later order’s explicit dimensions; it does not silently treat the annex as an equivalent construction. The diagram itself was not visually verified in this review. [2] [4]

Historical record

FOTW gives adoption as 25 October 2001 and records a public launch on 31 December 2001. It attributes the design to Alphonse Kirimobenecyo through an Embassy report; a separate original designer record was not verified. The original 2001 instrument was not retrieved, so the adoption day is explicitly reference-derived. [4]

Law 34/2008 is dated 8 August 2008 and appears in the Gazette of 20 April 2009. The dimensions order is dated 19 December 2013 and published on 13 January 2014. These are regulatory milestones, not new adoption dates. [2] [3] The current government description retains the design. [1]

Symbols and usage

Article 5 associates green with prosperity, yellow with economic development, blue with peace and happiness, and the sun with enlightenment, unity and transparency. [2] The size order covers administrative buildings, national ceremonies and indoor display. This record depicts the ordinary national flag field without fringe or hoisting hardware. [3]
