Egypt’s current flag is a red, white, and black horizontal triband with the golden Eagle of Saladin in the middle. The Presidency dates this design to October 1984. [1] Its legal hoist-to-fly ratio is 2:3. [3]
Specification
Article 223 of the Constitution names the national flag and specifies black, white, red, and an eagle derived from the Eagle of Saladin in golden yellow. The constitutional list of colors is not their top-to-bottom order. [2] Article 2 of Law 41 of 2014 specifies a rectangle with a hoist two-thirds of its fly, three equal horizontal rectangles—red above white above black—and the eagle in the middle of the white rectangle, according to the accompanying model. The current Commons file uses different red and gold values from this repository specimen; neither palette is promoted here to a legal color standard. [5]

The inspected SVG has viewBox 0 0 900 600. Three overlapping rectangles leave visible bands of 200 units each. The eagle and its inscribed scroll fit inside the white band, around the field’s vertical centerline x=450; the head faces left, toward the hoist. Its scroll reads جمهورية مصر العربية (Arab Republic of Egypt). These are observations of the supplied artwork. [5]
Some wing and leg details are mirrored with matrix(-1,0,0,1,900,0); the head and lettering are not symmetrical. FOTW reports variation in emblem rendering and warns that a suggested eagle height derived from a photograph is not an official dimension. No such fraction is adopted here. The field matches the statutory description, but the detailed eagle cannot be certified against the unverified accompanying model. [4] [3]
Symbol and usage
The Presidency explains red as strength, hope, and sacrifice; white as the country’s future; and black as the struggle against oppression. Its account associates the eagle with power. These are the Presidency’s explanatory meanings, not construction measurements. [1]

Historical record
The Presidency identifies October 1984 as the beginning of the present design. FOTW gives 4 October 1984; the exact day is retained as reference dating, not an independently verified gazette commencement date. This specimen represents the current period and must not be used to illustrate earlier Egyptian flags. [1] [4]
The 2014 Constitution confirms the eagle and colors. Law 41 of 2014, issued on 29 May and effective 30 May according to the legal archive, supplies the later statutory framework. Its Article 12 repeals Law 144 of 1984; the 2014 law is therefore cited for the field specification rather than treating the older law as current. [2] [3]
