Morocco’s current national flag is red with a green five-pointed star at its center. The Constitution calls it the Flag of the Kingdom; Article 4 establishes its identity. [1] Its hoist-to-fly ratio is 2:3. [2]
Specification
Article 1 of Dahir 1-05-99 requires opaque, colorfast, vivid-red rectangular fabric. The palm-green star is open, continuously drawn and woven into the fabric, visible on both faces with one point upward. [2]
These dimensions are prescribed by the same article. [2]
Physical and screen colors
The legal color names are vivid red and palm green; the quoted specification supplies no numeric color coordinates. [2]
#B7312C / RGB 183, 49, 44#006341 / RGB 0, 99, 65These fills are read directly from the selected vector. Other digital specimens use different shades. No official HEX, RGB, Pantone or RAL equivalence is established here; screen colors do not certify fabric. [5]
Construction notes
For fly L, the legal hoist is 2L/3 and the star’s circumscribing circle has radius L/6 at the rectangle’s center. [2] The inspected SVG has viewBox 0 0 9 6, making the target circle center (4.5, 3) and radius 1.5.
The vector draws a continuous, unfilled pentagram with stroke width 0.143. Its upper path vertex is (4.5, 1.73); this is the stroke centerline, not the visible tip. The mitered joins extend the upper tip to approximately y=1.499, giving a visible outer radius approximately 1.501. Measuring only the centerline would incorrectly report a substantially smaller star. The stroke is approximately one-twentieth of the outer tip-to-tip branch length. [5]
Limits of the specimen
Coordinates are rounded to three decimal places or fewer, so the outline is an approximation to a regular pentagram. This rounding is not a legal tolerance. The legal prose does not provide an SVG stroke model, joint construction or numeric production tolerances; the specimen’s treatment of the branch length and visible tips is a display interpretation. Use the legal text and an approved physical pattern for manufacture.
Historical record
The original dahir is dated 17 November 1915. Issued under Sultan Moulay Youssef, it orders a green five-branched Seal of Solomon at the flag’s center, explaining that the existing flag could be confused with other flags, including maritime signals. This is the decree date, rather than a claim about the first public raising. [3]
The later dahir was signed on 23 November 2005; its French official translation appeared in Bulletin officiel 5378 on 15 December 2005, page 834. [2] These are specification and publication dates, not a replacement of the original adoption date.
The Southern African Vexillological Association notes a difference between the 2005 star size and an earlier Album des Pavillons illustration. That earlier drawing is not treated as an interchangeable current construction. [4]
Symbols and attribution
The 1915 instrument names the Seal of Solomon but does not establish a graphic designer or a detailed interpretation of the colors. No designer attribution or additional symbolic meaning is assigned here. [3]
Usage
This record covers the constitutional national flag representing the Kingdom, which the government portal presents among the national emblems. [1] It is not a catalogue of specialized ensigns or personal standards. The physical specification requires the star to be visible on both faces. [2]
